NASP 2024 Convention Takeaways

Each year The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) holds a conference that brings together practitioners from all over the country to enhance knowledge through interactive sessions, presentations, and networking opportunities. As a school psychologist, clinical manager, and advocate for virtual service delivery, I look forward to this conference every year. This year the conference was held in New Orleans, Louisiana from February 14th – 17th, only one day after the infamous “Fat Tuesday” celebration! My colleague Dr. Kathryn Steele and I not only attended the conference, but we also presented twice, supported the VocoVision booth in the exhibition hall, and made numerous connections with practitioners! The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) just celebrated one of the largest conventions that brings together audiologists and speech-language pathologists nationwide. This year’s ASHA conference took place in the beautiful city of Boston, Massachusetts. The annual convention offers more than 2,500 sessions eligible for continuing education credit covering the latest research and techniques in communication sciences and disorders. Breaking Down the Impact of the Interstate Teacher Mobility Compact  

When becoming a teacher, there are often multiple certification exams you need to pass to obtain your license, and the test can vary by state which can restrict teachers who want to work for multiple states. However, recently the Council of State Governments (CSG) has partnered with the Department of Defense (DoD) and the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC) to support the mobility of licensed teachers through the development of a new interstate compact for teaching. The Interstate Teacher Mobility Compact (ITMC), aims to make it easier for states to recognize each other’s teacher licenses, reducing obstacles to employment and enhancing portability.
